Middle Eastern Cities Lead the Pack in Internet Speeds
A recent study has revealed that the travel destinations with the fastest internet speeds are predominantly located in the Middle East. This comprehensive analysis, conducted by Holafly, highlights the impressive connectivity in cities such as Doha, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.
Doha Tops the List
According to the study, Doha, Qatar, boasts the fastest mobile internet speeds, clocking in at an impressive 354.5 megabits per second. This speed allows for the download of a one-gigabyte city map in just 2.9 seconds.
“Middle Eastern cities, with their commitment to digital innovation, are setting new standards in connectivity,” says Pedro Máiquez, Holafly’s chief marketing officer.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi Follow Closely
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, also posted a download time of 2.9 seconds, while Abu Dhabi ranks third with a time of 3.1 seconds. These cities are not only popular travel destinations but also leaders in digital infrastructure.
“The study sheds light on how a city’s economic development and investment in digital infrastructure directly impact the travel experience,” Máiquez adds.
Global Comparisons
The study also compared internet speeds in other global cities. Copenhagen, Denmark, and Porto, Portugal, are among the top ten, with download times of 4 and 4.2 seconds, respectively.
In stark contrast, Havana, Cuba, ranks as the city with the slowest download time at 229.1 seconds, highlighting the disparity in internet speeds worldwide, reported Forbes.
Impact on Travelers
Holafly’s study underscores the importance of reliable internet connectivity for travelers. “Some beautiful and popular destinations can struggle with inadequate connectivity, impacting travelers who rely on mobile internet for navigation, communication, and accessing resources,” the study concludes.
