Kia Recalls Over 62,872 EV6 Vehicles Due to Charging Unit Issue

Kia Motors has announced a considerable recall of 62,872 of its 2022-2024 EV6 vehicles due to a potential loss of drive power caused by a damaged charging unit.

This recall, detailed in a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), highlights a critical issue with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU).

ICCU Damage and Drive Power Loss

According to the NHTSA recall report, the ICCU may become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery. This malfunction can result in a loss of drive power, greatly increasing the risk of a crash.

Kia stated, “The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can result in a loss of drive power and increase the risk of a crash.”

Free Repairs and Software Updates

Kia dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse if necessary, as well as update the ICCU software for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by December 13, and owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 for more information.

The NHTSA notice also mentions that this recall expands and replaces a previous recall (24V-200). If your vehicle was repaired under the previous recall, you will need to have the new maintenance completed.

Impact on Hyundai Vehicles

In a related development, Hyundai, a partial owner of Kia, is also recalling over 145,000 vehicles for a similar issue, including several IONIQ and Genesis models.

Hyundai’s recall affects 145,235 vehicles due to the same ICCU problem, which can lead to a loss of drive power and increased crash risk.
