Under Dana White’s leadership, the UFC has skyrocketed to the top of the martial arts world. Many of its top fighters have dived into the world of cryptocurrency, with some even getting paid in digital coins.

Previous Scandals in UFC’s Crypto Ventures

However, the association between UFC athletes and cryptocurrency hasn’t always been smooth. Earlier this year, Khamzat Chimaev was linked to a scam involving his own cryptocurrency project, Smash (SMASH). The project was revealed to be a typical pump and dump scheme, with 80% of the supply in wallets linked to Chimaev. He later blamed his manager for the incident.

Now, another UFC star, Khabib Nurmagomedov, has shown support for a new cryptocurrency project called Convict McGregor (CONVICT).

This project, inspired by Conor McGregor’s recent civil case for rape, claims to donate towards the legal fees of McGregor’s victims. Khabib praised the project in an X post on November 27, likely due to his rivalry with McGregor rather than the project’s credibility.

Khabib tweeted, “Good job guys , you have my full support, this guy deserve punishment”.

Concerns Over Potential Scam

Despite its noble claims, many are worried that Convict McGregor might be another scam. The cryptocurrency has seen considerable activity, with a market capitalization between $362,000 and $368,000 and a 24-hour trading volume of $1.61 million. However, its price dropped by 74.99% in one day, raising suspicions of a pump-and-dump scheme, reported Finbold.

Suspicious Disclosures and Past Involvements

A visit to the token’s website reveals a disclaimer stating that Convict McGregor is a satirical memecoin inspired by McGregor’s civil case and is purely for entertainment and meme culture. This, coupled with Khabib’s past involvement in a controversial NFT project, suggests that the project might not be as transparent as it claims.
