TikTok influencer Catherine Colivas has managed to avoid jail time despite her involvement in a violent kidnapping and robbery scheme. The 24-year-old, along with her accomplice Paris Kennedy, lured a Saudi Arabian royal into a terrifying ordeal that netted them $40,000 in Bitcoin. The County Court of Victoria handed down a community corrections order instead of a prison sentence, citing exceptional circumstances.
The Honeytrap Scheme
Catherine Colivas, known for her social media presence, used her looks to lure the victim through a dating app. After a night out, the victim was ambushed by Colivas’ accomplices, bound with cable ties, and threatened at knifepoint. The gang demanded $20,000 in cash, but the victim could only offer Bitcoin, which was transferred with the help of a friend.
Court’s Decision
Judge Nola Karapanagiotidis ruled that Colivas’ youth, fragile mental health, and the recent death of her brother were substantial reasons to avoid imprisonment. Colivas received a 30-month community corrections order, while her co-accused, Paris Kennedy, was released on a good behavior bond after spending 90 days in custody.
Community Reactions
The decision has sparked outrage and disbelief among the public. Many believe that the lenient sentence does not reflect the severity of the crime. The victim, who suffered physical and emotional trauma, expressed his disappointment with the court’s ruling.
The Aftermath
Colivas and Kennedy’s actions have left a lasting impact on their victim, who now suffers from PTSD and nightmares. The case has also raised concerns about the safety of dating apps and the potential for similar schemes in the future
