Jane Schoenbrun, the acclaimed filmmaker behind “I Saw the TV Glow” and “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair,” will release their next feature film, “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.”
This upcoming slasher film promises to be a unique blend of horror and psychological drama, exploring themes of gender, sexuality, and identity.
The cast of “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” includes a talented ensemble of actors, featuring Emma Stone, who also produced Schoenbrun’s second feature, “I Saw the TV Glow”. The flick also stars rising talents from the indie film scene, bringing a fresh and dynamic energy to this unique slasher story.
A New Spin on the Slasher Genre
Schoenbrun’s new film is described as a hybrid of “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” and a “Friday the 13th” sequel.
The plot follows a queer filmmaker hired to direct a new installment of a long-running slasher franchise. The director becomes obsessed with casting the ‘final girl’ from the original movie, leading the two women into a frenzy of psychosexual mania.
Exploring Gender and Sexuality
In an interview with Filmmaker Magazine, Schoenbrun revealed that the film is “all about sex—essentially a movie about learning to enjoy sex after transition”.
The film will honor and critique the “gender deviance” associated with some of horror’s memorable killers, from “Psycho” to “Silence of the Lambs”.
Anticipation and Early Reception
While the project is still in its early stages, “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” has already generated significant buzz.
Fans of Schoenbrun’s previous work are eagerly awaiting this new take on the slasher genre, which promises to be both thought-provoking and terrifying.
