Bing’s Google-Like Interface Sparks Criticism; Pixel 4a Gets Battery Fix

Google Chrome security chief Parisa Tabriz has blasted Microsoft for a new tactic using the Bing search interface. Tabriz criticized Microsoft’s choice to copy Google’s homepage design in a post on X.

This critique followed Bing’s introduction of a contentious feature that imitates Google’s user interface when users search for “Google” or “Google.com”. For more details, you can read here.

Google’s Pixel 4a updates that will stun you

After Android 13, Google ceased making updates for the 2020 Pixel 4a. Since August 2023, there have been no updates for the phone. This will soon change, though, as Google is emailing Pixel 4a customers to let them know about an impending upgrade.

Don’t get too excited because the build’s sole goal is to make the phone’s battery performance more stable. It won’t update your phone to Android 14 or add new features. However, there is a bright side: it may shorten the battery life of your phone.

The next software update for the Pixel 4a (Android 13-based) will launch on January 8, 2025. You can find additional information about the Pixel 4a Battery Performance Program on Google’s support page (via Reddit).

As reported by Android Police, the new build will shorten battery life on the affected devices by decreasing charging speed and battery capacity. Other problems might also exist, such as the battery indicator not displaying the accurate battery percentage.

Google will replace the batteries in “Impacted Device” Pixel 4a units for free as a gesture of gratitude. Only a few nations, like the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Singapore, and India, offer this choice, though. Additionally, this promotion is only valid while supplies last.
