The 22-year-old cornerback Cooper DeJean made a huge play in the second quarter. He intercepted a bad pass from Patrick Mahomes and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown. This gave the Eagles a strong 17-0 lead over the Chiefs. 

Saquon Barkley also had a milestone birthday. He turned 28 and set a new record for combined rushing yards in one season. However, DeJean’s incredible pick-six was the highlight of the game.

A Historic Super Bowl Moment

Cooper DeJean made a historic play in the Super Bowl. He intercepted a pass meant for DeAndre Hopkins and ran into the end zone. This was the first Super Bowl pick-six since Robert Alford’s touchdown for the Falcons against the Patriots eight years ago. 

That game ended in a shocking loss for Atlanta after blowing a 28-3 lead. However, history favored DeJean. Teams with a Super Bowl pick-six now have a 13-1 record. Tampa Bay won Super Bowl 37 after scoring three defensive touchdowns.

DeJean and Saquon Barkley both played in the Super Bowl on their birthdays. They became the 15th and 16th players to do so. However, DeJean was the first to ever score a touchdown or record an interception on his birthday. 

Barkley had a strong first half. He rushed for 31 yards on 12 carries. He broke Terrell Davis’ record of 2,476 combined rushing yards in a single season.

DeJean, a second-round pick from Iowa, played a key role in Philadelphia’s defense. His pick-six thrilled his hometown of Odebolt, Iowa. Fans gathered at a watch party to witness his historic moment.
