New Delhi, February 19, 2025 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Rekha Gupta as the frontrunner for the Chief Minister position in Delhi. This decision comes after a series of meetings and evaluations by the party’s central observers.

Rekha Gupta’s Political Journey

Rekha Gupta, a seasoned politician with a long history in student leadership, is poised to become the first woman Chief Minister of Delhi from the BJP. She won the Shalimar Bagh (North-West) seat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Election with 68,200 votes.

Her extensive experience, including roles as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) and Mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, has positioned her as a strong contender for the leadership role.

BJP’s Leadership Decision

“Rekha Gupta’s leadership qualities and dedication to public service make her the ideal candidate for this crucial role,” said a senior BJP leader. “Her victory in the recent elections and her track record in various administrative positions highlight her capability to lead Delhi effectively.”

Anticipated Swearing-In Ceremony

The announcement was initially delayed due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent return from an overseas trip. However, with the central observers’ assessment complete, the party is now ready to move forward with the selection process.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place on February 20 at Ramlila Maidan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Cabinet members, and Chief Ministers from various states in attendance. This high-profile event will mark the beginning of BJP’s governance in the national capital.

A Historic Milestone for BJP and Women in Politics

Rekha Gupta’s potential appointment as Chief Minister is seen as a notable milestone for the BJP and a step towards greater representation of women in leadership roles. Her legal background and political journey, starting from student politics to her current position as General Secretary of Delhi BJP, underscore her readiness for the role.
