Indian PM Modi Meets Former Mauritius PM Pravind Jugnauth in Port Louis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with former Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth in Port Louis today. The meeting was also attended by External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Strengthening India-Mauritius Ties

During the meeting, the leaders discussed various ways to boost the bilateral relationship between India and Mauritius. This engagement is part of a broader effort to enhance cooperation in areas such as maritime security, trade, and cultural exchange.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of the India-Mauritius partnership, stating, “Mauritius is not just a partner country; for us, Mauritius is family.” This sentiment was echoed by former PM Jugnauth, who highlighted the historical and cultural ties between the two nations.

Key Discussions and Future Plans

The discussions focused on strengthening economic ties, with both countries looking to explore new avenues for trade and investment. External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar remarked, “Our relationship with Mauritius is built on a foundation of mutual respect and shared values. We are committed to deepening this bond through increased cooperation in various sectors.”

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval added, “The security and prosperity of the Indian Ocean region are of utmost importance to us. We will continue to collaborate closely with Mauritius to address common challenges.”

Community and Cultural Exchange

In addition to economic and security matters, the leaders also discussed enhancing cultural ties between India and Mauritius. Plans to promote cultural exchanges, educational programs, and tourism were put forth as ways to strengthen people-to-people connections.
