
Celebrating Creativity: The Inaugural Festival of Animated Film and Illustration Promises to Enchant Audiences Across Montenegro
Montenegro is making history with the launch of its first-ever Festival of Animated Film and Illustration, titled (RE)ANIMATION.
The festival will take place in the city of Nikšić from March 20 to March 22, 2025, and will feature a diverse lineup of European short animated films and illustrations. Among the highlights is the participation of Serbian animator Miloš Rajković, also known as SHOLIM, who will be a special guest at the event.
Organized in collaboration with the Nikšić 2030 European Capital of Culture Office, the NGO Reanimation, and Protos Film, the festival aims to showcase the creative talents of Montenegrin and European artists. With support from the Film Centre of Montenegro, the event promises to be a vibrant celebration of visual storytelling.
Uniting Talents: The Festival Will Feature Over 100 Animated Works from International Creators
The festival will feature over 100 animated shorts, feature films, and illustrations, offering a diverse range of styles and storytelling techniques. From hand-drawn classics to cutting-edge CGI, the event will highlight the evolution of animated storytelling.
Festival Director, Marija Nikolić, expressed her excitement about the event, stating, “We aim to create an inclusive space where artists can share their vision and passion for animation and illustration. This festival is a celebration of creativity, diversity, and the power of animated stories.”

The (RE)ANIMATION festival is set to transform Nikšić into a hub of creativity, featuring a Salon of Illustration and Animation with 37 Montenegrin artists selected from over 200 submissions. These talented creators will compete for three prestigious cash prizes, adding an exciting competitive edge to the event. The festival will also include workshops, roundtables, and lectures, offering attendees a chance to engage with industry experts and learn about the latest trends in animation and illustration.
