
Hindi cinema can always be relied upon to serve large helpings of amusement with deliciously quirky comic capers. There is nothing like a zesty and effervescent comedy to lift the spirits, and on this International Day of Happiness, you can watch a few rib-tickling films that will make your spirits soar and fill your heart with sunshine.
‘Welcome’
This 2007 laugh riot directed by Anees Bazmi stars Akshay Kumar as a bumbling suitor trying to convince two gangsters that he is a good match for their sister (Katrina Kaif).
Though the film is loosely adapted from the 1999 comedy ‘Mickey Blue Eyes,’ its vernacular humor was a hit with the masses, especially the cameos by the late Feroz Khan, Anil Kapoor, and Nana Patekar.
The film’s success led to a sequel, ‘Welcome Back,’ in 2015 and a third installment in the series, ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ is yet to be released. The film was produced by Firoz A. Nadiadwala and can be watched on Prime Video.
‘Singh Is Kinng’
This rib-tickler directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah was one of the biggest hits in 2008 and starred Akshay Kumar as a happy-go-lucky village bumpkin who lands up in Australia on a personal mission, falls in love, and finds a bigger purpose.
The film’s music was also a big hit and continues to enjoy immense recall value. The ensemble cast included Om Puri, Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia, Javed Jaffrey, and Sonu Sood. You can watch it on Prime Video.
‘Mere Husband Ki Biwi’
This Mudassar Aziz directorial revolves around a hapless professional Ankur (Arjun Kapoor) who is torn between his ex-wife (Bhumi Pednekar) and a new love interest (Rakul Preet Singh).
An accident and a bout of retrograde amnesia changed the course of these three lives. As the ex-wife sets out to win over her estranged husband once again, the girlfriend finds herself fighting to hold on to the love of her life.
The film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, and Deepshika Deshmukh. Catch it at your nearest cinema hall.
‘Golmaal 3’
This 2010 entertainer was the third installment of the ‘Golmaal’ franchise and the second-highest grosser of the year. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film hilariously depicts the conflicts between two warring families in Goa as they try to sabotage each other’s business ideas.
The Dhilin Mehta production bolstered by top-notch performances by Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah also starred Arshad Warsi, Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, and Kunal Khemu, among others. Watch it on Prime Video.
