The anime adaptation of Mokumokuren’s horror manga, The Summer Hikaru Died, has unveiled a stunning key visual along with character designs for its main protagonists, Yoshiki Tsujinaka and Hikaru Indou. The anime is set to premiere on Netflix later this year, with a Japanese broadcast scheduled for the summer of 2025.
The story, published by KADOKAWA and serialized on the Young Ace Up website since August 2021, follows Yoshiki as he grapples with the unsettling reality that his best friend, Hikaru, has been replaced by something otherworldly.
Yen Press describes the plot as a chilling tale of identity and danger, where “it has Hikaru’s face, voice, and memories, but whatever came down from the mountains six months ago isn’t Yoshiki’s best friend.”
