AIIMS Delhi to Test Homegrown MRI Technology by October

India  will install its first indigenous MRI machine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi by October 2025. This initiative comes as part of a broader effort to reduce the country’s reliance on imported medical devices, which currently account for 80-85% of the equipment used in hospitals and clinics.

“The indigenous MRI machine marks a significant milestone in India’s quest for self-reliance in healthcare technology,” stated a senior official involved in the project.

“We are not just enhancing our capabilities; we are also ensuring that patients receive quality care without the exorbitant costs associated with imported devices.”

Building the MRI machine locally is projected to stimulate the Indian economy by creating jobs and fostering innovation within the medical technology sector.
