Narasimha Jayanti 2025: Puja Timings, Traditions, and Spiritual Benefits

Narasimha Jayanti 2025: Celebrating the Fierce Avatar of Lord Vishnu
Narasimha Jayanti, which falls on May 11, 2025, is a sacred Hindu festival that commemorates the appearance of Lord Narasimha, the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This divine form, depicted as half-man and half-lion, symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and the protection of devotees.

Significance of Narasimha Jayanti

Narasimha Jayanti marks the day when Lord Vishnu took the fierce form of Narasimha to protect his devotee Prahlada and defeat the demon king Hiranyakashipu.

According to Hindu mythology, Hiranyakashipu had received a boon that made him nearly invincible—he could not be killed by man or beast, inside or outside, during day or night, or with any weapon. Lord Narasimha bypassed these conditions by appearing at dusk, on a threshold, and using his claws to destroy the tyrant.

Puja Timings and Rituals

The festival is observed on the Chaturdashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the Vaishakha month. Devotees perform special prayers and rituals, including:

  • Fasting: Many devotees observe a strict fast, consuming only sattvic food and avoiding grains.
  • Sankalp: A vow is taken during Madhyahna (midday) to honor Lord Narasimha.
  • Puja: Worship is conducted before sunset, including offerings of flowers, fruits, and Tulsi leaves.
  • Night Vigil: Some devotees stay awake through the night, chanting mantras and performing Visarjan Puja the next morning.

Spiritual Benefits of Observing Narasimha Jayanti

Worshipping Lord Narasimha on this day is believed to bring protection, prosperity, and courage. His blessings are sought to overcome fear, negativity, and obstacles in life. The festival serves as a reminder that divine justice prevails, no matter how impossible the odds.

Karnataka DCM DK Shivakumar tweeted early morning and wished people on this auspicious day.
