On Saturday, X was down for thousands of users. They were either unable to log in, post content, or even refresh the feed as the service disruption occurred around 5:45 PM IST.
X Outage Frustrates Users
Downdetector website reported that it received more than 2000 user complaints around 6:00 PM, which also gives an indication of how large the disruption has been. Many users have reported that they were getting things like a loading screen or a message saying, “Something went wrong. Try reloading.”
Potential Cause, Company Response
This service disruption was apparently because of a major data center failure, confirmed on X’s site by engineers. In a previous statement, they said that “We’re still experiencing issues from yesterday’s data center outage. Logon and signup services show as unavailable for some users; notifications and Premium features will probably still work with delays.”
Concerns Over Data Security, and Recovery from Data Center Failure
While we are still unclear about the full scope of this incident, many users are growing increasingly concerned about the security of their user data as well as X’s ability to recover access to private messages. Some users are already turning to other platforms like Reddit or Instagram to check for messaging and updates and vent their frustrations.
With no clear resolution in sight, users are eagerly awaiting updates from X’s technical team. Will the platform recover swiftly, or is this outage a sign of deeper infrastructure challenges?
