Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin has praised fellow Hyderabadi Mohammed Siraj for his outstanding performance in the recent Edgbaston Test against England. Siraj’s six-wicket haul and a stunning catch have earned him accolades from fans and cricket legends alike.
Azharuddin, speaking to reporters, described Siraj as a “big heart bowler” who consistently gives his all on the field. “Effort is never a question with him,” Azharuddin said. “He took six wickets and then pulled off a brilliant catch. For a bowler to take that kind of catch shows he’s a true team player.”
Siraj’s fiery spell of 6/70 in the first innings was instrumental in India’s dominant 336-run victory at Edgbaston. His dismissals included key English batters such as Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Zak Crawley, helping India seize control of the match.

The catch in question came during a crucial moment when England was attempting to rebuild after a collapse. Siraj sprinted across the field and dived full stretch to complete the grab, drawing comparisons to legendary fielders like Jonty Rhodes. Even Sachin Tendulkar took to social media to hail Siraj’s athleticism.
Azharuddin’s praise adds to the growing recognition of Siraj’s evolution as a dependable pace bowler. With Jasprit Bumrah rested for the match, Siraj led the attack and delivered under pressure. “He’s matured into a leader,” Azharuddin added. “Hyderabad should be proud of him.”
Siraj’s performance also earned him a place in an elite list of Indian bowlers who have taken six-wicket hauls in England, joining names like Kapil Dev and Ishant Sharma
