The popular Indian spy thriller franchise “Special Ops 2” returns with its gripping second season, streaming now on JioHotstar.
Released on July 18, “Special Ops 2” reintroduces audiences to Kay Kay Menon in the role of seasoned R&AW officer Himmat Singh, this time taking on adversaries in the digital shadows.
Cast
The series features Karan Tacker, Vinay Pathak, Saiyami Kher, and Divya Dutta, with Menon anchoring the plot through his signature quiet intensity.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey and Shivam Nair, the show blends classic espionage drama with contemporary themes like AI manipulation, data theft, and global digital sabotage.
Plot Overview
Season 2 begins with the murder of a senior intelligence official and the mysterious kidnapping of a tech expert.
What unfolds is an international mission that spans Dubai, Moscow, and Delhi as the team uncovers a sinister plan to compromise India’s financial infrastructure, using cyber tools to hijack the UPI ecosystem.
The antagonist, played by Tahir Raj Bhasin, leads a new-age cyber terror group that pushes Singh and his team beyond familiar terrain and into a world where AI knows no borders.
Review
Critics are praising the show’s fast-paced narrative and Menon’s layered performance. The inclusion of real-world cyber tactics and geopolitical tension adds depth, while slick production value and varied locations give it a global feel.
However, not all aspects click: some action sequences feel formulaic, and the romantic subplots slow down the pace in middle episodes. The female characters, though promising, don’t get enough screen time to fully shine.
Still, “Special Ops 2” is a compelling binge for fans of tech-driven thrillers and high-stakes espionage. It delivers paranoia, patriotism, and pulse-pounding tension.
