On November 7, 2025, Japanese theaters will welcome the highly anticipated musical anime film ‘Toritsukare Otoko’, an adaptation of Shinji Ishii’s 2001 novel.

Directed by Wataru Takahashi, known for his work on Crayon Shin-chan, and animated by Shin-Ei Douga, the film promises a whimsical blend of romance, music, and emotional storytelling.

‘Toritsukare Otoko’: Cast, Characters & Creative Team

The story follows Giuseppe, a man so easily captivated by new interests that townsfolk nickname him “Toritsukare Otoko” (Obsessed Man).

Voiced by Masaya Sano of Ae! Group, Giuseppe falls for Pechka, a balloon seller played by Moka Kamishiraishi (Mirai no Mirai).

With help from his rat friend Cielo, Giuseppe uses his quirky talents—from detective work to rat-speak—to heal Pechka’s hidden sadness.

The film’s music is composed by Atagi, vocalist of Awesome City Club, adding a melodic layer to the narrative. The trailer features the song “Fanfare ~Koi ni Ukarete~”, which sets the tone for the film’s emotional arc.

From Page to Screen: A Novel Adaptation with Heart

Originally published by Biriken Shuppan in 2001 and later republished by Shinchosha in 2006, Toritsukare Otoko has long resonated with readers for its heartfelt themes and eccentric charm.

The anime adaptation, produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks, aims to capture the novel’s essence while introducing a fresh visual style that blends angular character designs with vibrant musical sequences.

According to Anime News Network, “Giuseppe’s journey is a metaphor for emotional healing through empathy and obsession,” making the film a standout in the fall anime lineup.
