Nearly 2,900 Oracle India Staff Affected Across Major Hubs
Oracle has let go of close to 2,882 employees in India—about one in every ten of its local staff of 28,824. Cuts spanned Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Noida, and Kolkata, hitting software development, cloud, and customer support roles.
Many employees said the news came without advance notice, and details on severance remain unclear.
Layoffs Follow High‑Profile Trump Meeting and $500B AI Push
The restructuring was announced just days after Oracle CEO Larry Wilson met US President Donald Trump to discuss domestic hiring priorities, national data security, and strategic tech partnerships.
Soon after, Oracle disclosed a high‑value agreement with OpenAI, tied to its colossal “Stargate” AI data center project—an initiative estimated at $500 billion and requiring up to 4.5 gigawatts of US‑based computing power.
Industry watchers suggest the timing is no coincidence, viewing the cuts as part of a pivot to US‑centered AI infrastructure in line with Trump’s emphasis on reshoring jobs.
Tech Layoffs Surge as AI Investments Reshape Workforce
India appears to be among the worst‑hit Oracle markets, but the downsizing extends to the US, Canada, and Mexico. In Seattle alone, more than 150 Oracle staff have reportedly been let go.
Globally, the move mirrors a broader tech trend: Microsoft has axed 15,000 jobs in 2025, Amazon has eliminated thousands of roles, and Meta has continued to trim headcount.
Analysts say AI build‑outs are driving massive capital expenditure, often offset by cuts in non‑core or offshore teams.
Despite the layoffs, Oracle is continuing selective hiring in the US for AI‑related roles, indicating a workforce realignment rather than a freeze—one that could reshape its India strategy after two decades of steady expansion.
