About Parkash Purab
The Parkash Purab marks the historic first installation (parkash) of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar in 1604 under the guidance of the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
The scripture is a compilation of hymns and teachings from Sikh Gurus and saints from diverse backgrounds, promoting universal values of equality, peace, and devotion.
A Message Beyond Borders
While deeply rooted in Sikh tradition, the day resonates globally as a celebration of spiritual wisdom and human unity.
Across India and the diaspora, gurdwaras hold akhand path (continuous recitation), kirtan (devotional singing), and community service (seva) to honour the Guru’s message.
