Leader Nikhil Kumarswamy Reacts to Banu Mushtaq’s Dasara Inauguration

he Karnataka government’s decision to invite Booker Prize-winning author Banu Mushtaq to inaugurate this year’s Dasara Festival has sparked political commentary, with JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumarswamy voicing mixed views.

In a video shared by ANI, Kumarswamy said:

“We have no issues that one Muslim lady will be inaugurating the Dasara festival. One thing that recently took place regarding Thayi Bhuvaneshwari, who has expressed certain reservations… There are videos…

There are many other people who are great achievers. Perhaps you (the state government) could have considered other options as well. I think they could have chosen someone else…”

The remarks come amid ongoing debates around cultural representation and religious symbolism in Karnataka’s public events. Kumarswamy referenced Thayi Bhuvaneshwari, a revered figure in Kannada tradition, suggesting that her concerns should have been factored into the selection process.
