PSB Manthan 2025 Charts Future of Public Sector Banks for Viksit Bharat 2047

Gurugram, Haryana | September 13, 2025: The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, successfully concluded PSB Manthan 2025, a two-day strategic programme aimed at charting the future course for Public Sector Banks (PSBs) in alignment with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Held in Gurugram, the event was chaired by the Secretary, DFS, and brought together senior leadership from PSBs, regulatory bodies, industry experts, academicians, technologists, and banking practitioners.

In his inaugural address, the Secretary, Financial Services, emphasized that PSBs have transitioned beyond the phase of survival and stability. He called upon them to embrace a larger role in driving growth, innovation, and sectoral leadership, positioning themselves as globally competitive institutions capable of supporting India’s economic ambitions.

Key Highlights of PSB Manthan 2025:

  • Strategic Vision: PSBs were positioned as key enablers of Viksit Bharat 2047, with a renewed focus on global competitiveness, inclusive growth, and leadership in emerging sectors.
  • Expert Participation: Eminent speakers included Shri Swaminathan J. (Deputy Governor, RBI), Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran (Chief Economic Adviser), Shri M. Damodaran (Former SEBI Chairman), Shri Debasish Panda (Former IRDAI Chairman), and former RBI Deputy Governors and SBI Chairmen.
  • Thematic Deliberations: The programme featured seven panel discussions, three expert sessions, and open house engagements covering:

  • Sectoral Expansion: PSBs were encouraged to deepen their traditional strengths in agriculture, MSMEs, housing, and infrastructure, while also emerging as champions in sunrise sectors such as renewable energy, electric mobility, green hydrogen, semiconductors, and digital industries.
  • Customer-Centric Transformation: Emphasis was placed on reimagining service delivery, simplifying processes, and building hyper-personalised products to enhance customer trust and satisfaction.

Outcomes & Way Forward

PSB Manthan 2025 culminated in a shared roadmap for the transformation of Public Sector Banks. Immediate priorities were set around governance, customer service, technology adoption, and credit delivery. A long-term pathway was outlined to evolve PSBs into globally competitive institutions that can support Indian enterprises at home and abroad.
