To address Bengaluru’s crumbling roads, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has announced that over 7,000 potholes have already been filled, with an additional 5,000 slated for urgent repair.
The government has identified 10,000 potholes citywide, and contractors have been given a final deadline of November 2025 to complete the work.
To fund this massive effort, ₹750 crore has been allocated for immediate repairs, with an additional ₹1,100 crore earmarked for long-term road development.
What Did DK Shivakumar Say About the Road Crisis?
Shivakumar has been vocal on social media and in press briefings. In a recent post on X, he stated:
“Our government is paying attention to the concerns of Bengalureans. Potholes across the city are being filled and roads resurfaced to provide smoother and safer journeys for everyone.”
He also emphasized accountability:
“Contractors have been given a final deadline to fill the potholes within November. The Greater Bengaluru Authority will ensure relief from potholes as soon as possible.”

Which Areas Are Seeing Fast Progress?
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has prioritized high-traffic zones like CV Raman Nagar, Outer Ring Road, and Bengaluru South, where engineers are working round the clock. Visuals shared by GBA show active resurfacing and pothole filling, especially in areas affected by monsoon damage.
Why Is This Urgent?
Public frustration has reached boiling point. Viral videos showed school buses nearly toppling due to potholes, and tech CEOs like Rajesh Yabaji of BlackBuck threatened to relocate operations from Bellandur’s ORR due to poor infrastructure.
Shivakumar acknowledged the challenge:
“There are potholes in every city of the country. But only Bengaluru makes headlines because our media is free and highlights these issues more openly than in other states.”

What’s Next for Bengaluru Roads?
After the monsoon, the government plans to launch a long-term infrastructure roadmap, including better drainage, footpath upgrades, and mobile apps for pothole reporting. Police officers have also been tasked with maintaining pothole records and responding to public complaints swiftly.
Will Bengaluru Meet Its November Deadline?
With strict orders from CM Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, Bengaluru’s road repair mission is in full swing. But with thousands of potholes still open and public trust on the line, the next few weeks will be critical.
Will the city finally see pothole-free roads by November—or will this be another missed promise? Bengaluru’s commuters are watching closely.
