Indian model and Actress Poonam Pandey was removed from the cast of the prestigious “Luv Kush Ramlila” at Delhi’s Red Fort following public backlash over her selection to portray Mandodari, the wife of Ravana.
The controversy erupted after Pandey, known for her bold public persona and viral stunts, shared a video expressing excitement about playing the mythological role.
She also announced she would observe a nine-day Navratri fast to prepare for the performance spiritually.
However, her recent bikini-clad appearances and past controversies—including a fake death stunt in 2024—triggered strong objections from religious and cultural groups.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other organizations formally protested her casting, arguing that her image clashed with the spiritual essence of the Ramlila, which aims to spread the message of Lord Ram.
In response, the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee held a press conference on September 23, confirming that Pandey would no longer be part of the production.

Committee President Arjun Kumar and General Secretary Subhash Goyal stated that while Pandey had initially agreed to the role, the decision to replace her was made “to preserve the sanctity of the event and respect public sentiment.”
This year’s Ramlila will still feature a star-studded lineup, including Arya Babbar as Ravana, Kinshuk Vaidya as Ram, and BJP MP Manoj Tiwari as Parashurama. The role of Mandodari will now be played by another artist, yet to be announced.
Pandey has not issued a formal response to her removal, but insiders suggest she may address the controversy soon. For now, her headline-grabbing debut has turned into a high-profile exit—one that’s reignited debate over celebrity casting in cultural events.
