Karnataka’s Mega Sports Leap: ₹2350 Crore Cricket Stadium Approved
Karnataka’s Congress-led government has approved a groundbreaking ₹2,350 crore international cricket stadium and sports complex in Suryanagar, Anekal taluk, Bengaluru Urban district.
Spanning 75 acres in Indlavadi village, the project aims to elevate the state’s sports scene with world-class facilities.
It includes an 80,000-seat cricket stadium—set to be India’s second-largest after Ahmedabad’s 132,000-capacity venue—plus amenities for 24 indoor and outdoor sports and a 3,000-seat auditorium.
This move addresses limitations of Bengaluru’s existing M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which seats only 38,000 and hasn’t hosted international cricket since a 2004 stampede that claimed 11 lives.
The initiative, proposed by the Housing Department, focuses on job creation through sports infrastructure, aligning with women’s empowerment as highlighted in promotional materials.
The Cabinet has directed the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and viability study for swift execution.

This will be Karnataka’s third international cricket venue, following approvals for Mysuru and an ongoing build in Tumakuru.
