Rishabh Pant returns to India squad for the SA Tests after months of recovery, and fans couldn’t be more thrilled. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa, starting November 14. Pant has not only made the cut but has also been appointed vice-captain.
Pant Returns to India Squad for SA Tests with Vice-Captain Role
Pant’s comeback follows a strong performance in the recent unofficial Test against South Africa A, where he scored 90 off 113 balls in the second innings. His leadership and wicketkeeping skills were on full display, helping India A clinch a three-wicket win.
As per Indian Express, Pant replaces N Jagadeesan, who featured in the West Indies series last month.
Squad Highlights and Key Changes
The squad features Shubman Gill as captain, with other notable names including KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav. Akash Deep has been recalled, replacing Prasidh Krishna. The first Test will be held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata (Nov 14–18), and the second in Guwahati (Nov 22–26).
“Pant’s return adds depth and aggression to the middle order,” said a BCCI official during the squad announcement. His fitness and form have been closely monitored since his injury in England earlier this year.
Why Pant’s Return Matters
With India aiming to dominate the new WTC cycle, Pant’s explosive batting and sharp glovework could be game-changers. His presence also boosts morale, especially with senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli not part of this series.
