The long-standing uncertainty surrounding Mohsin Naqvi’s attendance at the ICC headquarters was finally resolved when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman arrived in Dubai on Friday afternoon. His presence at the ICC Board meeting came amid growing pressure over the unresolved Asia Cup trophy issue.
Sources from Cricbuzz revealed that the atmosphere at the meeting was more cordial than confrontational, even as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) raised concerns. Acting in his dual role as PCB chief and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman, Naqvi has reportedly withheld the Asia Cup trophy, which India won after defeating Pakistan in the final held on September 28 in Dubai.
Devajit Saikia, BCCI secretary and India’s representative at the ICC Board, informally urged that the trophy be handed over to India without further delay. The matter, discussed during casual conversations among board members, may lead to the formation of a panel to resolve the issue, although no formal steps have been confirmed.
The trophy remains locked in the ACC office under Naqvi’s directive, sparking criticism from global cricket administrators. While Saikia and other BCCI officials were unavailable for comment, insiders suggest a consensus among ICC members to settle the matter swiftly.
