Sri Lanka wins the toss and chose to bowl first against Zimbabwe in the second match of the Pakistan T20I Tri-Series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Score: Zim 116/3 in 15 overs
The decision gave them an early breakthrough when Eshan Malinga dismissed Brendan Taylor for 11, leaving Zimbabwe at 40 for 2 in the sixth over.
Zimbabwe’s innings was steadied by Brian Bennett, who looked composed with 29 runs from 27 balls, striking four boundaries.
Alongside him, Sikandar Raza was working to build momentum, scoring eight runs from nine deliveries. Their partnership added some stability after the early setback, though the run rate hovered around 6.8 per over.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers maintained discipline throughout the powerplay and into the middle overs.
Malinga was particularly effective, conceding only nine runs in his two overs while picking up the crucial wicket of Taylor. Wanindu Hasaranga kept the pressure on with his variations, giving little room for Zimbabwe’s batters to accelerate.
At the halfway stage of the innings, Zimbabwe had reached 58 for 2, with Bennett and Raza holding the crease.
The contest remained finely balanced, with Zimbabwe aiming to post a competitive total and Sri Lanka looking to tighten their grip through spin and controlled pace. The Rawalpindi crowd witnessed a tense battle as both sides tried to seize the advantage in this crucial tri-series fixture.
