Australia has announced its 14-player squad for the second Ashes Test against England, retaining the same group that secured a commanding victory in Perth. The day-night Test at the Gabba begins on December 4, with Steve Smith continuing as captain in the absence of Pat Cummins.
Pat Cummins Misses Out Again
Skipper Pat Cummins will miss a second consecutive Test as he continues his recovery from a back injury. Cummins was sidelined during the opening match in Perth, where Australia cruised to an eight-wicket win inside two days.
Despite bowling in the nets and showing signs of progress, selectors confirmed the Brisbane clash comes too soon for his return. Cummins will travel with the squad to continue his rehabilitation, with the Adelaide Test on December 17 now targeted for his comeback.
Steve Smith to Lead Unchanged Squad
Vice-captain Steve Smith will once again lead the team. The unchanged squad includes experienced names such as Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Usman Khawaja, and Marnus Labuschagne, alongside emerging talents like Cameron Green and Jake Weatherald.
Travis Head, who impressed as an opener in Perth after Khawaja’s back spasms, is expected to retain his place at the top of the order.

Selectors Back Stability
Australian selectors emphasized continuity, noting the strong performance in Perth and the need for stability heading into the Gabba Test. “We are confident in the group that delivered in Perth and believe they can carry momentum into Brisbane,” a Cricket Australia statement read.
According to ICC, the unchanged squad reflects faith in both experienced campaigners and fresh faces.
England, meanwhile, are expected to make changes after their heavy defeat, with questions around their batting order and bowling attack. The Gabba Test promises another high-intensity clash as Australia aim to extend their series lead and England look to bounce back.
