Maharashtra Civic Polls 2026: Mahayuti Alliance Leads
The Maharashtra civic body elections 2026 are showing a clear lead for the BJP-Shiv Sena Mahayuti alliance as vote counting continues across the state. According to early trends, the BJP is leading in 816 wards, while its ally Shiv Sena is ahead in 212 wards. In Mumbai’s prestigious Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Mahayuti alliance is ahead in 99 wards, while the Thackeray brothers’ alliance is leading in 63 wards.
Ramdas Athawale’s Statement
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale expressed confidence that the next Mumbai Mayor will come from the Mahayuti alliance and will be a Marathi speaker. “Uddhav Thackeray was in power for 25–30 years because he was in an alliance with the BJP. Today, the BJP is the number one party in the country. The RPI(A) was with Uddhav Thackeray since 2012, which is why he remained in power, but today neither the BJP nor the RPI(A) is with him,” Athawale told ANI.
He added that Uddhav Thackeray’s new alliance with Raj Thackeray may give him some advantage in Marathi-speaking areas, but most seats are expected to go to the Mahayuti alliance. “The Mayor of Mumbai will be from the Mahayuti alliance, and will be a Marathi speaker,” Athawale said.
Other Key Results Across Maharashtra
In Pune, the BJP is leading in 48 of 165 wards, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP is ahead in 14 wards. In Pimpri-Chinchwad, the BJP has taken a strong lead in 70 wards, while the Pawar factions are leading in 40 wards. In Thane, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena is ahead in 14 wards, slightly above its ally BJP which is leading in 12 wards.
With the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance maintaining strong leads across multiple cities, the civic polls are shaping up to be a decisive victory for the ruling coalition. The final results are expected to confirm Mahayuti’s dominance in Mumbai and other key municipalities.
