Federal Lawsuit Targets Former Senator Kyrsten Sinema
Former Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema is under legal scrutiny following a federal lawsuit filed in North Carolina.
The suit accuses her of engaging in an affair with her former bodyguard, Matthew Ammel, and interfering in his 14-year marriage.
The plaintiff, Ammel’s ex-wife Heather Ammel, is seeking damages under the state’s “alienation of affection” law, which allows spouses to sue third parties for disrupting a marriage.
Affair Allegations and Timeline
According to court documents, Ammel began working on Sinema’s security detail in April 2022 while she was still serving in the Senate.
The lawsuit alleges that the two engaged in “repeated episodes of sexual intercourse” during his marriage, ultimately leading to the couple’s separation. Sinema retired from Congress in 2025 and now works in the private sector.
Campaign Fund Misuse Claims
The lawsuit also claims that Sinema used campaign funds to finance aspects of the alleged relationship, including luxury travel and concert tickets.
If proven, this could violate federal election laws. The plaintiff is demanding over $75,000 in damages for emotional distress and marital breakdown.
According to Yahoo News, the case has sparked widespread debate over ethics and accountability in public office. Sinema has not publicly responded to the allegations, and no criminal charges have been filed as of now.
The lawsuit is expected to proceed in federal court later this year. Legal experts say the outcome could hinge on both personal testimony and financial records linked to Sinema’s campaign expenditures.
