Karnataka Showcases Smart Energy Vision at Davos 2026
Karnataka is positioning itself as India’s hub for smart energy innovation. At the World Economic Forum in Davos 2026, Minister for Large and Medium Industries, Mr. M B Patil, announced a new collaboration with Octopus Energy, a global leader in technology-driven energy solutions.
The announcement was made on January 20, 2026, highlighting Karnataka’s ambition to integrate advanced digital and AI-enabled grid technologies.
Octopus Energy Partnership
Mr. Patil met with Mr. Stuart Jackson, Co-Founder and Board Director of Octopus Energy, to discuss the deployment of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology and the company’s innovative “Zero Bills” homes model.
These net-zero housing solutions aim to eliminate energy bills by combining renewable energy, smart meters, and dynamic pricing. The partnership will focus on piloting these technologies in Karnataka, with structured engagement between BESCOM and Octopus Energy.

“We agreed to pursue structured engagement between BESCOM and Octopus Energy to pilot and scale digital and AI-enabled grid solutions in Karnataka, with full facilitation assured by the Government of Karnataka,” tweeted Mr. Patil during the Davos summit. His statement reflects the state’s commitment to sustainable energy transformation.
Smart Energy Future for Karnataka
Karnataka already leads India in renewable energy, with over 15,000 MW of installed capacity from solar and wind projects. The integration of V2G technology could further enhance grid stability by allowing electric vehicles to feed power back into the system.
Meanwhile, Zero Bills homes are expected to set new standards for sustainable housing, reducing costs for residents and supporting India’s net-zero targets.
According to World Economic Forum, Davos 2026 has placed strong emphasis on energy innovation and climate action.
Karnataka’s partnership with Octopus Energy aligns with this global agenda, positioning the state as a pioneer in smart energy adoption and digital grid modernization.
With government support and international collaboration, Karnataka is set to become a model for smart energy innovation in India, driving both economic growth and environmental sustainability.
