DGP Ramachandra Rao Suspended Over Viral Video
The Karnataka government has suspended K. Ramachandra Rao, Director General of Police (Civil Rights Enforcement), after videos allegedly showing him behaving inappropriately with women inside his office went viral. The suspension order was issued late on January 19, 2026, citing conduct unbecoming of a government servant and embarrassment caused to the administration.
Government Response
Home Minister G. Parameshwara confirmed that the state acted swiftly, enforcing suspension under Rule 3(1)(a) of the All India Service (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969.
He stated, “We have suspended him. An inquiry will follow. After the inquiry, we will also become aware of the other dimensions. We will take next action accordingly.” The Minister also noted that dismissal could be considered depending on the findings of the probe.
Mr. Rao has been restricted from leaving headquarters without prior permission and will only receive a subsistence allowance in line with service regulations.
