The Bennehalla stream has historically caused significant distress to farmers in the Dharwad and Gadag districts due to recurring flash floods. To address this, the state government has greenlit a ₹200 crore flood control initiative.

Earlier today, Navalgund MLA NH Konereddy, accompanied by Dharwad District In-charge Minister Santosh Lad, visited the ceremony site in Shiraguppi to inspect the final preparations. The project, which was a key budgetary promise, aims to channelize the stream and build retaining walls to protect nearly 20,000 hectares of farmland.
