700-Year-Old Tradition Lives On as New Rajagopura Tower is Dedicated in Yaduru

YADURU, BELAGAVI | March 5, 2026 — Large crowds gathered today in Yaduru village as the Honorable Vice President of India, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, opened the grand new entrance tower (Rajagopura) of the Shri Veerabhadreshwara Temple.

The event was a massive celebration filled with ancient rituals. Thousands of people watched the Mahakumbhabhisheka, where holy water was poured over the temple domes. As the sun set, the area was lit up by one lakh (100,000) oil lamps for the Lakshdeepotsava festival, and a special prayer called Krishnarati was offered to the Krishna River.

The Vice President was joined by the Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, and many religious leaders, including the head of the Shri Shaila Matha.

During his speech on the main stage, the Vice President praised the work of local temples and monasteries (mathas). He said that these places do much more than just religious work. He pointed out that they provide free food, a place to stay, and a good education to millions of students who might otherwise have nothing. He called this service “the light of life” for the community.

Other important leaders like Jagadish Shettar, Prabhakar Kore, and Ganesh Hukkeri were also there to support the event. The ceremony was a big success, showing how important these spiritual centers are for the growth and unity of the people in North Karnataka.
