Bengaluru, March 2026: The Karnataka state government has announced a major education initiative to implement the CBSE curriculum in 800 government schools within the next three years. The program, unveiled by School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, aims to strengthen Karnataka Public Schools and provide students with a unified and modern learning framework.

Current Status of CBSE Schools

According to the Department of Information and Public Relations, Karnataka currently has 309 CBSE schools serving more than 272,000 students. The expansion plan will gradually increase this number to 800, ensuring that children across the state gain access to nationally recognized education standards.

Focus on Quality and Accessibility

Minister Madhu Bangarappa emphasized that the initiative is designed to guarantee structured learning and prepare students for higher education. “Our goal is to provide complete curriculum-based education under one system, so that every child has equal opportunities to succeed,” he said. The program is part of the government’s Nav Samruddhi Guarantee, which focuses on inclusive growth and educational reforms.

Impact on Students and Families

Officials noted that the move will benefit thousands of families, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, by offering CBSE education at lower costs than private schools. Parents and educators have welcomed the decision, saying it will improve competitiveness and open doors to national-level examinations and career opportunities.
