Dharwad’s Ward 55 just set a new gold standard for worker dignity. Following the high-level directives of the Executive Engineer (Environment) and the Zonal Commissioner, a massive gear-up ceremony for our local “Cleanliness Harbingers” took place on March 26, 2026.
We saw Ward Member Shri Iqbal Navalur personally leading the charge, ensuring that the men and women who keep our streets breathable are finally equipped for the grind.

The streets of Hubballi-Dharwad are brutal, and the new “Dignity Kits” are designed to fight back. Our sources confirmed that each worker received a rugged food kit containing a high-grade tiffin box and a thermal water bottle, all packed into a reinforced carrying bag.
Along with the kits, a fresh set of industrial-standard uniforms was distributed to provide both professional identity and essential safety during high-traffic cleaning shifts. No more working in tattered clothes or skipping hydration—this is a direct investment in human capital.
Shri Iqbal Navalur emphasized that this isn’t a handout, but a debt repaid. We talked to several pourakarmikas at the site who expressed immense relief, noting that the new bags finally allow them to carry hygiene essentials safely through their long, dusty workdays.
The administration’s move to provide these basic amenities serves as a loud acknowledgment of the selfless service these warriors provide to Ward 55’s public health. It was a moment of pure respect for the hands that clean our city.
The rollout is part of a city-wide push to modernize the municipal workforce’s image and health standards. Officials present at the distribution noted that well-equipped workers lead to a more efficient and motivated sanitation department.
With the successful completion of the Ward 55 distribution, the focus now shifts to neighboring zones to ensure every cleaner in the twin cities is similarly outfitted (see the full kit breakdown below).
The new tiffin boxes and water bottles are BPA-free and designed for long-term outdoor use, ensuring workers have access to clean food and water regardless of their location.
The uniforms also feature high-visibility accents, a critical safety feature for those working pre-dawn hours near moving traffic. This initiative by the HDMC is a clear message: the welfare of the pourakarmikas is now a top-tier administrative priority.
