Kolkata is all set to witness the first of the two-Tests to be played between India and West Indies. All eyes are set on Eden Gardens cricket ground which is geared up for hosting the 199th test match of Sachin Tendulkar.

West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first as India gave debut caps to double-centurian Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami.

When last reports came in, West Indies lost its openers early and had scored 118 for the loss of two wickets at lunch on day one.

Just four days after winning the ODI series against Australia, Indian side is confident of winning the test match series also. Sachin Tendulkar playing his final Test has taken precedence over other on-field action.

In his column with TOI, WI cricketer Brian Lara has written that it is not surprising that the entire attention is on Sachin’s retirement.

Bengal cricket association has used Sachin’s picture on the coin used for toss and the match tickets. Lara wrote that Sachin needs to be focused on his game and not deviated by these sidelights.

He wished for Sachin to do well but West Indies to win.

West Indies has already won the toss and elected batting first. The pitch is expected to support seamers and later as cracks develop in the pitch, spinners will come into play.
