Sandeep Acharya, ‘Indian Idol 2’ winner dies of jaundice

The 29-year-old singer Sandeep Acharya, winner of the 2nd edition of Indian reality TV show ‘Indian Idol 2’, died of jaundice at a hospital in Gurgaon on Sunday, December 15, 2013.Sandeep Acharya

Sandeep was admitted to Medanta Hospital for treatment of jaundice. Sandeep has left behind his wife and an infant daughter.

According to a source, Sandeep fell ill after attending a relative’s marriage in Bikaner.

Sandeep is the winner of ‘India Idol 2’ 2006. He has also won the award for best new Bollywood talent in New Jersey, USA.

Akshay Acharya, Sandeep’s cousin, confirmed the news, “Yes, Sandeep passed away at the Medanta Hospital today. He was suffering from jaundice. We brought him here on Dec 10,”

“Before that he was admitted to a hospital in Bikaner (Rajasthan). He was there for three days after which we brought him to Delhi,” he added.

Choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan, who was the judge for expressed her condolence through Twitter, she tweeted: “It’s too sad to hear of Sandeep Acharya, winner of ‘Indian Idol 2’ and my favourite, passing away. Such a gentle boy he was. Not his time to go.”

Sonu Nigam who was also part of the judges panel tweeted, “felt sad after reading about Sandeep’s demise. “Jaundice? Gosh…very sad. The boy was just 29…This year, oh god, is only about deaths I feel. God give his parents some strength,” read Sonu’s tweet.

Mini Mathur, who hosted “Indian Idol 2”, was shocked with the news. She tweeted: “What a sad, premature goodbye to a talented, ambitious, happy boy. RIP Sandeep Acharya.”
