The Eastern Economic Forum 2021 took place in Vladivostok on the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) campus. The Eastern Economic Forum was established by Vladimir Putin in 2015 to develop Russia’s Far East economically and expand international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
PM Narendra Modi virtually addressed the plenary session by starting with praising about Indo-Russian friendship and how Vladivostok is the Sangam of Eurasia and Pacific.
Acknowledging this friendship he said that both the countries stood with each other in the tough times especially in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic and vaccination program.
This friendship can bring stability to the global energy market and there is a high scope for Indian talent to contribute to Far East Russia’s development. He also shed the light on health and pharmaceutical sectors by stating their importance at the time of the pandemic.
Referring to other sectors like petroleum, diamond, steel, timber, etc, he said that these sectors have a lot of potential and contribution to the economy.
He also recalled his visit to Vladivostok in 2019 and Putin’s vision of development in Russia’s Far East.
PM Modi also requested 11 governors of the Russian Far East to visit India at the earliest.
