Jammu: The two pilots, Major Rohit Kumar and Major Anuj Rajput were critically injured, but they succumbed to their injuries.
The claims were made by Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday that locals have spotted a helicopter crashing near the Patnitop area of Udhampur city. The Jammu and Kashmir Police earlier said that they had sent a team of officers on the spot of this accident.
This incident took place during a training session in a densely populated forested area of Patnitop area during a training sortie. Cheetah helicopter of The Indian Army’s helicopter crash-landed in this area.
The two pilots, Major Rohit Kumar and Major Anuj Rajput were critically injured, but they succumbed to their injuries. GOC-in-C of Northern Command, Lieutenant General YK Joshi, and all the ranks saluted these braveheart soldiers, who made this supreme sacrifice on their duties.
The Northern Command of the Indian Army offered his deepest condolences to the martyrs’ families.
The officials said that incident occurred between 10:30 AM and 10:45 AM due to the bad weather. The chopper belonged to the Army Aviation Corps. The police and the Army conducted a joint rescue operation to evacuate the injured pilots and rushed them to the hospital.
“Today, during a training sortie in Patnitop area, Indian Army’s Cheetah Helicopter crash-landed in Shiv Garh Dhar area in Udhampur district. Two pilots were injured and evacuated to the hospital but they could not survive,” defense spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said.
