On Sunday, October 17, 2021, the Haryana Police arrested former cricketer Yuvraj Singh. They released them on bail in an alleged casteist remarks case against Yuzvendra Chahal during an Instagram chat last June, following a high court order.
The DSP of Hansi, Vinod Shankar, said that Yuvraj Singh came to Hansi on Saturday, October 16, 2021, and the police arrested him. However, he was released on bail following an order from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Complaint Filed
A Dalit activist, Rajat Kalsan, filed a complaint in February this year in which he demanded Singh’s arrest and a case registered under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, which aims to prohibit discrimination of the people belonging to this caste. An FIR was filed in this case on the orders of the high court.
Probe who was arrested yesterday but was released on bail. The activist, Rajat Kalsan, said that on October 6, the police were asked to include Yuvraj Singh in the case. The police will soon submit its final report in the SC/ST court in Hisar, and Yuvraj Singh will have to file for bail from there and attend the hearings at the court in Hisar. The activist said that they would do their best to prove him guilty. They are challenging this bail plea in the Supreme Court.
Kalsan alleged that the Haryana Police gave him VIP treatment. They clicked selfies with him and were offered juice and snacks.
Bail Plea
The Punjab and Haryana High Court listened to Singh’s plea seeking the quashing of an FIR filed against him under sections of the IPC and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act based on a complaint by lawyer Rajat Kalsan at the Hansi Police Station in Hisar.
