What is Metaverse?
Metaverse refers to a collection of worlds shared online in which physical and virtual reality converges. People can hang out with their friends, work, visit places, and many more. But the users cannot move between them while retaining their identities. The metaverse can solve this problem by turning online worlds into a single entity. With this, the borderline between the virtual world and reality will be blurred even while using phones.
This means that reality and the virtual world will be affected. In simpler words, this is like the internet but in three dimensions. Different companies will use the metaverse to offer their experiences to people. People can enter onto through other devices like their PCs, mobile phones, videogames like they use the mobile internet.
This term was originated by Neal Stephenson, a sci-fi novelist, to describe a virtual world. The change of name will reflect a new metaverse for Facebook.
Plans of Facebook
Facebook is planning to hire about ten thousand people in European Union in the next ten years to help build metaverse. The company also plans to invest about $50 million to maintain a partnership with organizations to build the virtual world responsibly.
Facebook intends to connect with nearly three billion users through various devices and apps. Also. Facebook has invested a heavy amount in virtual reality(VR) and augmented reality(AR).
The original Facebook app and its services may remain the same in their branding. These will be under a parent company that counts the other brands with billion-user like Instagram and WhatsApp in its portfolio. Though, it is still not known what will be the new name of Facebook.
