On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, on the occasion of the Eid-Milad-Un-Nabi, the opposition parties of Pakistan, the Pakistan Democratic Movement president Maulana Fazlur Rehman accused PM Imran Khan of selling the gifts he received from the heads of the other countries.
Exchange Of Gifts
The gifts are exchanged between the heads or officers on a constitutional position of the several counties frequently. According to the gift depository rules, these gifts are meant to be sold at an open auction. Until then, these are the property of the State. These rules also allow retaining advantages with MRP less than Rs 10,000 without paying anything.

Justification from the PM’s side
The special assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Communication, Dr. Shahbaz Gill, earlier said that the government was maintaining secrecy over the details of gifts received by Prime Minister Khan from the heads of the other states.
If the lists were released, they would be compared to the other countries, which is inappropriate, especially with the Islamic countries with whom Pakistan has brotherly relations. The disclosing of the prices is the national agreement. This was done in response to a citizen’s application by the Pakistan Information Commission from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf(PTI) government. This matter was challenged in the Islamabad high court for not disclosing the amount received on selling the gifts, as these are considered classified.
