Rafael Nadal offered $1.1M per night for International Tennis League

Tennis star Rafael Nadal has been reportedly offered $1.1 million per night for playing in the inaugural International Premier Tennis League (ITPL) scheduled to take place in December.

The tournament features five city-based teams competing for the trophy. Set in the cities of Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Mumbai and Kuala Lumpur, each of the cities will be sending their officials to India with a minimum budget of $4.4 million each. The event features both men and women including champions of yesteryear.

Sydney Morning Herald reported that tennis veteran Mahesh Bhupathi, ITPL’s creator, has offered Nadal $1.1 million per night for three of the event’s eight matches. The report said that Nadal is the keenest of the ‘Big Four’ in Tennis.

While Roger Federer has not shown any interest in the project, both Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are weighing up their options. Many players of top 10 including Tomas Berdych, Stanislas Wawrinka, Agnieszka Radwanska, Richard Gasquet, Caroline Wozniacki, and Victoria Azarenka have reportedly been signed up for the event.

Nadal is reportedly playing as a marquee player in the event that is modeled on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It is scheduled from Nov 28 to Dec 20 and the players’ auction will take place over the weekend in Dubai.
