The Delhi High Court cleared the decks on Thursday for the release of controversial movie “Gulaab Gang”.
The movie is reportedly based on the life of Bundelkhand based activist Sampat Pal who founded the famous Gulabi Gang. She approached court and got a stay against the movie’s release on Wednesday saying that her reputation will be tarnished.
Activist Sampat Pal sought a restraining order saying that the makers did not seek her permission before making it and the lead actress was shown in bad light in the promos. The court stayed release of movie till May 7.
On Wednesday the producers of ‘Gulaab Gang’ moved Delhi Court against the stay. The counsel of producer argued that Sampal Pal wanted to derail the movie’s release only at the last moment. The bench questioned Pal on why she didn’t move the court a month earlier and rejected her claim for monetary compensation.
He offered to run a disclaimer at the start of the film that the movie is not related to Sampat Pal or her organisation in any manner.
‘Gulaab Gang’ directed by debutant Soumik Sen and starring Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla is releasing on Friday, March 7.
