After releasing “Jagame Thandhiram” and “Atrangi Re,” Dhanush has presented his third movie on OTT, “Maaran”. It is a Tamil-language action thriller film.
Cast of the film
It concludes the most amazing and promising cast, with Karthick Naren being the Director and Actors/Actresses like Samuthrakani, Aadukalam Naren, and Ameer, with production house Sathya Jyothi Films. But what went wrong? Because it’s a collaboration that looks appealing only on papers, not in r,reality.
‘Maaran’ Review
This movie starts with a glimpse of a Crime thriller but ends up being an Emotional thriller.
Director Karthick Naren appears to have made Maaran with little or no awareness of the underlying functioning of the journalistic field. This film is a clear illustration of an amateur observer passing judgment on a real-world subject without having any exposure to it. It would be naive to believe that editors of news organizations sit in a conference room and prefer celebrity love affairs over fact-based reporting and societal issues.
Also, it’s a stretch to believe that a trustworthy journalist will be honored with front-page stories in rival magazines or that TV news networks will shower glorious praise on competitors. IMDb rating of the movie is 4.7.
Summary of the movie
A child Mathimaaran witnesses his journalist father’s execution, which was carried out by a gang enraged by his fearless reporting. Maaran (Dhanush) walks in his father’s footsteps by becoming a trustworthy journalist. He joins a major news agency and quickly rises to prominence.
When he conducts a sting operation on a dishonest and power-hungry politician who anyhow wants to win a by-election by manipulating electronic voting machines, he opens a can of worms. Maaran publishes a report about him and draws a mark on his back without fear of retaliation. His candour comes back to bite him when his soul sister is kidnapped by his enemies. He seeks revenge after witnessing his sister’s horrific death.
Public response
He then starts to investigate the person who is behind her sister’s death to seek vengeance against him.
The movie was so drab and dreary that even Ameer and Dhanush weren’t able to lift the spirits of viewers.
