In India, SS Loyalty created history when the first ship of The Scindia Steam Navigation Company Limited. The ship covered its journey to the United Kingdom.
Why the date April 5?
In the year 1919, when the Britishers ruled over India, the first Indian commercial vessel had set to sail from Mumbai to London. This commercial company was SS Loyalty of Scindia Steam Navigation Company Limited. Although, this company was altogether owned by Indians. As the ship sailed, the moment turned historic, as the sea routes were entirely under the control of the British. In 1964, this day’s celebration began to spread awareness about intercontinental commerce and the economy globally.

Maritime Vision 2030
In the year 2021, The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi announced a ten-year program- Maritime Vision 2030. This aims to modernize the Indian Marine Sector with the planning of a Rs 3 lakh crore investment in various ports of the country. This project promises to generate employment for about 20 lakh people. The Prime Minister of India announced this budget at the three-day summit on National Maritime Day 2021.
