Fodder Scam: Lalu Prasad Yadav Granted Bail By Jharkhand HC

A special team of CBI has sentenced RJD (Rashtriya Janta Party) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav to five years jail sentence in a scam case. Lalu Prasad Yadav is in detention after being convicted and sentenced in February by a CBI court in a fodder scam case involving the misappropriation of over 139 crores from the Doranda treasury.

Me Prabhat Kumar, the counsel of Lalu Prasad, stated that the high court ruling will be relayed to the lower court by Tuesday and that we will submit the bail bond and seek a release order. The Jharkhand High Court postponed the hearing in a petition filed by the jailed leader appealing his conviction in a fodder scam case on April 8.

A special CBI court in Ranchi convicted the former Bihar Chief Minister to five years in prison. In addition, it fined him Rs 60 lakh in connection with the fifth fodder scam case, which involved the misappropriation of over 139 crores by the Doranda treasury. Lalu Yadav’s lawyer, Kapil Sibal, had told the court that his client had already spent more than half of his five-year prison sentence in the case and deserved to be released. However, on February 15, Lalu Prasad Yadav was found guilty by the CBI Court in New Delhi.

Lalu Yadav was the chief minister of undivided Bihar and handled the finance portfolio during the scam. He allegedly accepted kickbacks from the department of animal husbandry. As a result, fake challans and bills were issued, and money was released through the treasury once the finance department cleared them.
