World Earth Day: Zomato Announces 100% Plastic Neutral Deliveries

World Earth Day: Zomato Announces 100% Plastic Neutral Deliveries

On World Earth Day, Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal announced that Zomato would perform hundred percent plastic neutral deliveries. He said his company has planned to recycle a hundred percent of the plastic used to deliver food on Zomato orders.

Goyal also talked about last year’s “climate-conscious delivery” program through which they funded local environmental projects to offset their carbon footprint on deliveries and food packaging. In addition, to minimize the use of single-use plastic, they added the feature of “no cutlery required” in their app.
Last year, Zomato managed to reduce 500,000 MTs of carbon emissions.

“From now on, every meal you buy through Zomato will be 100 percent plastic neutral, which means we will voluntarily recycle more than 100 percent of all plastic employed in your order’s packaging,” Goyal stated, extending the steps toward a plastic-free planet.
“We have begun working with cutting-edge ISO-certified plastic waste management organizations, who will collaborate with municipalities across India to collect and sustainably handle plastic garbage,” He explained.

World Earth Day: Efforts to promote sustainable packaging

Zomato is also “stepping up our efforts to produce and promote sustainable packaging for all sorts of cuisines,” he added, adding that there is still more work to be done to decrease or eliminate the use of plastic in food delivery.

“However, I am certain that what is good for the environment is also excellent for business.” Profits, I believe, occur when everything else is done well. And this is unquestionably a positive move,” he concluded.
